"He’s never lost to anybody. He’s never acted out of consideration for others, or yielded to them. No, he doesn’t feel the need to." His father, a high-ranking official active in the independence movement, died at the hands of bandits after crossing the Yalu River, after which he was left to fend for himself, hiding in the harsh terrain of the Gaema Plateau, fighting with beasts over a mere potato. Still, Kang-to tamped down his own desires and endured because of his older brother, who would one day help re-establish their family name. But one day his brother suffers an injury and is turned into an imbecile—all thanks to that damn independence movement. And so, Kang-to decided: “Forget Joseon, ruled by the king’s line—I’ll be loyal to the Imperial Japanese Empire, where the slave who used to dress the lord can become a ruler.” With no money, backing, or education, he hears that a man can die a martyr if only he has strong fighting skills, and throws himself into learning geomdo (kendo). Once he earns that recognition for his skills, he becomes the capital’s top “cold city man,” the crown prince of the social world. “But he had no idea that with the appearance of that damned Bridal Mask, the sweet dream would shatter. Or the fate that awaits him…”


Jin Sae-yeon as Mok Dan
A member of a circus troupe with a bright personality. Whenever she starts to feel despair, she reminds herself that she’s the daughter of a leader in the independence army, a man born into the lowly slave caste who rose to become army general. At the age of ten, she and her mother crossed the northern border in search of her father, only to have Mom die. And while Dan hovered between life and death, she was saved by the young man, our hero. Her life’s goals become twofold: Find her savior, and find her father. It’s for that reason that she gives up an advantageous opportunity to leave for America and chooses instead to wander the entire country with a traveling theater troupe, learning the arts, keeping her ears open for any talk of those two men.


Park Ki-woong as Kimura Shunji
A teacher living in the capital (Kyungsung, or old Seoul) with a gentle personality that belies a strong backbone. His father was a samurai and Shunji was raised learning how to swordfight, but he grew up to become the opposite of his father’s ways. When Dad told him that Joseon was a land of savages, he disagreed and gave up the sword, choosing to become a teacher there. Shunji was born in Kyungsung and had a loving Korean nanny, and perhaps for that reason he has affection for the country. He falls for a Korean woman as well, our heroine… who loves Kang-to, his friend. And this love rivalry with Kang-to sparks a change in Shunji, which sounds like lots of angst is in store for his future.


Han Chae-ah as Chae Hong-joo
A Korean woman who takes up a Japanese identity and reinvents herself as Ueno Rie. Hong-joo/Rie is a strong woman with diverse sides—a singer, a gambling master, a spy who makes poisons and explosives—who’s skilled with artifice and lies. She was born to an aristocratic family, but because her father refused to monetarily support the independence army, the general killed him. Her mother died from the shock and their servants burned the house down, overturning her life entirely. Hong-joo became an orphan and beggar, driven to survive to avenge her parents’ deaths, becoming a gisaeng at the age of nine. The mere mention of Joseon’s independence army has her burning up in fury, which goes noticed early on by a Japanese man named Ueno Hideki, who adopts her as his daughter. Thus she undergoes army training and comes to Joseon to kill the man known as Bridal Mask who has been killing members of their secret organization Kishokai.

PLOT
"Giant" covers the lives of the three siblings growing up in the 1970's and their pursuit for revenge; Lee Kang-Mo (Lee Beom-Su) is a man who carries deep sorrow, his younger sister Lee Mi-Joo (Hwang Jeong-Eum) & his older brother Lee Sung-Mo (Park Sang-Min).

Lee Kang-Mo's father died due to a friend of his father. Because of this, Kang-mo also lost his mother and had to separate from his younger sister and older brother. Kang-Mo was then raised by a man named Hwang Tae-Seob (Lee Deok-Hwa). Kang-Mo also falls in love with Hwang Tae-Seob's daughter Hwang Jung-Yeon (Park Jin-Hie). By a cruel twist of fate, it turns out Hwang Tae-Seob turns out to be the man responsible for Kang-Mo's father's death. Now Lee Kang-Mo & Hwang Jung-Yeon's relationship changes as Lee Kang-Mo becomes driven for revenge.

Lee Mi-Joo (younger sister of Lee Kang-Mo) loves Jo Min-Woo (Joo Sang-Wook). Unfortunately for Mi-Joo, Min-Woo leaves her while Mi-Joo is carrying his baby. After the birth of their baby, Mi-Joo attempts to hide her single mom status from those around her. Mi-Joo finds success in her career as a sister, eventually becoming a star. She also becomes the step-daughter for Congressman Oh Byeong Tak, who later passes away from a mysterious accident. Mi-Joo enlists the help of her brother Kang-Mo to destroy her former lover Jo Min-Woo, even though she is still in love with him.

Lee Sung-Mo (older brother Lee Kang-Mo) is an agent for the Central Intelligence Agency. He was picked for the agency by a man named Jo Pil-Yeon (Jeong Bo-Seok). At the time Lee Sung-Mo was unaware that Jo Pil-Yeon was responsible for the death of his father, but discovers this fact later. Sung-Mo is then able to connect Jo Pil-Yeon with Hwang Tae-Seob (the man that raised Lee Kang-Mo) as the two men connected with his father's death. Sung-Mo carefully details his discovery on paper. Sung-Mo dreams of exacting revenge but is then shot by Jo Min-Woo and becomes disabled. Sung-Mo then gives the information he discovered on Jo Pil-Yeon and Hwang Tae-Seob to his young bother Kang-Mo ...

Smart brain and courageous guts, there is a charisma behind his reckless action. He has a dream to make the strongest home in the world since he has lost his mother by briquette gas poisoning.

Busan, 1970, when his mother gave birth little baby, he lost his father by some mysterious murdering case. While escaping to Seoul, his big brother was separated. Only mother, Mijoo and new born baby were left with him.
Without nursing by anybody even right after delivering new baby, his mother was suffered by high fever. He used his final pocket money to find out room for mother. That was the small and dirty room which several women share together. Little Kangmo and Mijoo started to beg money in the station. Nobody cared them.
When Mijoo started to sing, there were a few person who gave coins to them. With that coin, they brought medicine and food for mother. Mother's illness was getting more serious. Some winter day under the rain, Kangmo bought a few briquette to make mother's room warm. After asking the room owner to make the room warm, he filled his stomach with water.
When he came to mother's room after daily begging, there were police cars and ambulances. There came out dead body one by one due to the briquette gas poisoning. In the middle of them, his mother was there. At the last moment, she pushed out new baby with her last breath. So, the new born baby could be alive.
Kangmo could not do nothing but dropping tears. At that time, Kangmo decided himself that, after growing up, he would build strong house which briquette gas cannot penetrate in.





Daughter whom Mr. Hwang Taesup brought from outdoors. She is smart at figures and capable of calculation even without paper. Cold, arrogant and bold character.

After her father fell down, she led Manho construction company together with Cho Minwo against Kangmo's Hangang construction company. But the company was taken away by Minwo afterwards. But, she succeeded to stand alone to become a mother of third financing world.

She never discouraged even under cruel treatment of her step-mother and step-brother. Instead, Saying she doesn't want to receive free meal, She started to do book-keeping of Manho construction company. Knowing she has strong character, Mr. Hwang Teasup expected her more than son, Jungsik .
While doing book-keeping, she found out that some blind money went to somewhere. Someday, Mr. Hwang Taesup accompanied her to a place where he handed money over to Mr. Cho Pilhyun. Mr. Cho worked for governmental secret agency. That was the shock to little Jungyun.
She found out the shadow of governmental power in the world of his father's business. Without support of governmental power, business is nothing like only small super-market. She started to make her ambition bigger. She decided to occupy his father's business expelling her step-brother, Jungsik.
It was something like revenge. Her real mother was discarded by her father, to say frankly, expelled by current step-mother. To compensate her mother's poor life, she must become a successor of Manho construction company. The big money even governmental authority cannot handle is the way of revenge to the world.





Son of Cho Pilhyun. He has smart brain and graceful outlook. He has built as a tool of his father's ambition. He, himself, hated father's style from his heart, so, he decided to catch more power than his father.


When he failed to get Jungyun's love, he met Mijoo to kill time. But, afterwards, he started to fall in love with Mijoo. At the day of back from study abroad, he felt something wrong hearing Kangmo say he love Jungyun.
As the marriage with Jungyun postpone repeatedly, he must hear blame from his father. At that time, his father, Pilhyun run for Congressman for the second time. For that, the support from Whang Taesup was seriously needed.
At the first time of running, 1978, he had failed to become a Congressman. Reason why Minwo came back even before finishing scholarship was also there. He must help his father's election after making wedding ceremony with Jungyun. But, because of Kangmo, everything was messed up.





Younger sister of Kangmo.

Though she devoted herself to Cho Minwo, She was discarded.
Though, she was given birth to a baby of him and raised secretly.
Hiding she was unmarried mother, after several years of hard working, she became a famous celebrity and a step-daughter of Congressman Oh Byungtak.
After Mr. Oh died by mysterious car crash, she and Kangmo made Cho Minwoo collapsed, but she still love him.

The history of Korean dramas will be rewritten in 2009. A grand project beyond anyone's imagination is finally put in action! The Korean Peninsula is the last divided country remaining in the world. The US, Russia, China and Japan--the powers surrounding South and North Korea--are in constant political and military tension in the region over the nuclear issue and the six-way talks.

This drama is the story of special agents dedicated to the life-risking mission of preventing a second Korean war against the backdrop of such regional dynamics. Through grueling training, they have come to not fear death and not feel any guilt over killing. They move upon orders and go to all lengths to complete their mission. They have their own league invisible to the common people. There is no mechanism or organization to protect them as they act against the human instinct to protect life. The government does not acknowledges their existence. They are on their own to protect themselves.

But they also have one thing difficult for them to control. The biggest danger and taboo for these highly trained agents is "love." The spy action genre is an untapped area in Korean dramas. The challenge of this new field is encouraging given that viewers in today's visual era desire something new more than ever. Weapons and equipment used in actual espionage missions have been utilized for the greatest sense of authenticity. Overseas shooting in Japan and Hungary helps to faithfully portray the international spy warfare going on in the world we live in. The country's first blockbuster scale spy action series "IRIS" will establish itself as a series worth watching over and over again.

Synopsis
Assassin Kim Hyun Joon and psychological analyst Choi Seung Hee are lovers as well as colleagues at secret intelligence organization, NSS. Due to a friend’s betrayal, they go through hell with the unlucky fate of continually loving each other but unable to say or do anything about it. Jin Sa Woo is a secret agent who was at the top of his class. However, since meeting Hyun Joon and Seung Hee, he struggles to obey orders. He and Hyun Joon are friends in work but foes in love, as both care for Seung Hee. (KP's note: I’m not sure if Sa Woo is the one that betrays them.)

The character played by T.O.P is an assassin for IRIS, a secret organization hidden the States. He has been assigned to kill Hyun Joon. Kim Sun Hwa is a North Korean security agent who follows her security team leader, Park Chul Yung, like a shadow. She is also ordered to chase after Hyun Joon, but falls in love with him after being discarded by her country. Sato Eriko is an agent for Japan’s Defence Intelligence Headquarters. The cast and crew will film in several different countries (Japan, U.S., China, Russia) with an astounding budget of approximately $15 million USD (based on March 17’s exchange rate). Top 707 agents Kim Hyunjun (Lee Byunghun) and Jin Sawoo (Jung Junho) are blood brothers who swore to trust each other and unchanging friendship for life. Hyunjun had lost his parents in a car accident when he was young. He doesn't have much memory of them from the shock of their death. Not only that, he always carries a sense of void and loneliness in his heart. But his friend Sawoo had filled that void. The men go to 707 Corps to qualify as agents. They stand out and get noticed by the National Security System (NSS) and become the top agents. They meet agent Choi Seungjee (Kim Taehee) there and both fall in love for her. But Hyunjun and Seunghee become close and Sawoo fights to hide his feelings for Seunghee. He tries to be happy for Hyunjun. Hyunjun and Seunghee date in secret from the other NSS agents and eventually go on a secret trip to Japan. When they return to Korea, they are immediately sent on a mission to Hungary with Sawoo. When they successfully finish off their job with immaculate teamwork and are celebrating it.. a message arrives to Hyunjun asking him to meet in secret.

PLOT
‘City Hunter’ is an original script based on the world-famous novel by Japan’s Tsukasa Hojo. Since it became public that Korea would be the first remake of this story into a drama, ‘City Hunter’ has been receiving worldwide attention.

‘City Hunter’ has switched the setting from Tokyo 1980 to Seoul 2011, and according to the original story structure, the protagonist becomes a city hunter and his character develops while resolving gratifying cases.
